September is a month dedicated to thrifty living; it’s National Coupon Month. Here’s how these penny-pinching papers came into being:
The first hand-written coupons, for free fountain drinks promoting Coca-Cola, were given out in 1894.
Coupons soon spread to local grocery stores and supermarkets, eventually becoming their own industry during the late 1950s.
The first National Coupon Month was in 1998. In 2000, the program expanded to help parents teach children about the importance of saving money.
In 2008, 89 percent of consumers used coupons to save money, giving them about $2.3 billion in savings!

Some Coupon Advise...
Before you spend time on the internet finding and printing coupons ask your retailer IF they will accept them. You will be shocked how many don't. The reason is the retailers often don't get paid for internet coupons since they are VERY easy to fake.
The company I work for has not accepted them for the last 3 years since we can't get paid for them. We ended up taking a HUGE loss one year just in unpaid internet coupons. We are 40 stores strong in California and Hawaii.
