FIRST FATHER'S DAY
This last week was a tough one. Liz was out of town a few days for work and after I paid all of the bills we were pretty much broke. I was hoping that we would get her expense check from her trip or that I would get paid my first check from Allen ISD. Turns out that I didn't get my little check from Allen ISD until the 30th, not the 15th and Liz's expense check would come next week. We had wanted to buy a new BBQ since our old one broke and cook a nice dinner or go out my first father's day. I always stress out during these times and wonder if I should get a full time job instead of taking care of the kids. So we had enough to put some gas in Liz's car and I told Liz that I would love to have "breakfast for dinner" on Father's day. I also told her that I would love to clean our room together. So that is what we did on Saturday, we cleaned our room! Our room never gets cleaned because we are too busy with the rest of the house and stuff gets piled in there. So we finished and it was nice to see the floor again and then the kids wanted to go shopping for Father's day.We explained that we did not have any money for Father's day gift. The kids had money saved up from gifts and they wanted to go shopping with there own money! This morning for my first Father's day I awoke to the love of my children baring gifts! They bought me a Captain Pike figure from the new Star Trek movie, a Wolverine figure from the X-Man movies, caffeine free Diet Pepsi, Whoppers and Reese's Peanut Butter Cups! I could not have ask for a better day!

FATHERS
I am new at the job of fatherhood and I have a long ways to go in being a great Father but this inspires me to work every day at getting there!
Fathers Have a Sacred Responsibility to Lead Their Families
“It is our responsibility as fathers to lead our families in daily family prayer, daily study of the scriptures, and in family home evening. We must prioritize and preserve these opportunities to build and strengthen the spiritual underpinnings of our families. President Hinckley said: ‘Try not to let anything interfere. Consider it sacred’ (Worldwide Leadership Training Meeting, June 21, 2003, 22).”

BREAKFAST WITH THE KINDERGARTNERS
Friday, June 5th was the last day of Kindergarten for our son. He had a tough first half of the year adjusting to Kindergarten, a new school and a new Mom and Dad. We were blessed with a great teacher for our son, Mrs. Bird. Words could not explain how great she was for our son. She taught him a lot about going to school and the importance of learning. More so, she had patience with him even when he would get in a bad mood. The key to success for both of our kids teachers was communication. We knew how their days were and the teachers formed a partnership with us in helping our kids to grow. Our son's class had a breakfast party and it was a lot of fun. We will miss Mrs. Bird next year as she teaches at another school but we will always be thankful for loving our son!

ICE CREAM PARTY FOR THE 1ST GRADERS
Friday, June 5th was the last day of 1st grade for our beautiful young girl. This has been a fun year for her at Vaughan Elementary School. She was blessed with a wonderful teacher named Mrs. Fouts who not only provided our daughter with what she needed in education but also the emotional support as she transcended into a new school and a new family. It was hard for us and our girl to say goodbye to Mrs. Fouts but the ice cream party did help to soften the blow! We are looking forward to seeing Mrs. Fouts in the hallways as our daughter moves on to 2nd grade.

A NIGHT AT THE RACES
We were given tickets for the NASCAR Truck Series at the Texas Motors Speedway. This is the first race for all of us. Our son really likes racing so this was a fun event for him. It was on the same day as the last day of school so it was a good way to get them to think of something else besides school ending. Speaking of our minds being somewhere else we fought Friday afternoon traffic and we were more then half way there when Liz asked me if I had the tickets to the race. Since I didn't have them and neither did she we worked our way back home to get the tickets! On the way home and back to the races we paid to use the toll roads! The race was a lot of fun and it was a perfect cool night with a nice breeze. Surprisingly but kids loved the race even though our son was upset becasue #30 won and #88 came in 2nd!
